Here are couple of progress shots of an ongoing commission for a bespoke Beadle Staff.

This is the top section that will cap the staff that the orb will join to, and I’ve just finished soldering on the end cap and D section wire to the tube.

To all the smiths out there are you a stick feeder or a pallion placer?

To be honest I’m a bit of both depending on the joint, but lean towards pallions where possible.

R E N D E R - V S - R E A L I T Y

Earlier this year I was working on a bespoke commission for the Worshipful Company of Marketors, gained at last years @goldsmithsfair digital. They wanted me to design something to give to the 151 regiment as a thank you for all their hard work on the front line during the Pandemic.

I decided to create a functional piece that could be used and enjoyed by all at future Mess Hall dinners. The design aims to echo the support and uplifting work they have provided to the public.

For me rendering and working precisely at the design stage is just as important as the execution of the piece. There are many ways of doing this from sketching to technical drawing, to scale models or 3D CAD. I always design initially on paper and then hone in on the technicalities of the piece in #3dcad . As long as the modelling matches the piece in reality, I think it’s a really useful way of working. It’s not for everyone, but I feel it helps give piece of mind to me and my clients.

In this instance due to the lockdown restrictions the video and renders were extra useful as they were presented virtually by the Marketors Company to The 151 Regiment.

A little clip of me doing some wood staining for a commission I picked up at last years @goldsmithsfair #digital

The wooden base is made from Sapele and has been stained using Morells black wood stain. It took a few coats but really pleased with how it turned out!
